OTC Acne Medications

OTC means "Over-The-Counter", in other words, you do not need a prescription to buy an OTC product. If you have minimal acne, you can often get reasonable results using these preparations, which are primarily directed at reducing the blockage of pores. In general, these products include cleansers and some topical treatments, such as lotions, pads, gels, and creams that are applied onto the surface of the skin.

Useful information about the drug:
Benzoyl Peroxide is an antibacterial agent that kills P. Acnes bacteria. It is available in cream, gel, lotion, or stick form. Before applying, wash the affected area with nonmedicated soap and water or with a mild cleanser and then gently pat dry with a towel. Apply enough medicine to cover the affected areas, and rub in gently.

Generic Name: Salicylic Acid

Those with sensitive skin who cannot tolerate alpha hydroxy acids may find that they are able to use salicylic acid with good results.
