NLite:
Cornerstone of an Anti Aging Regimen
By
Dr. Jeffrey Rapaport. MD, FAAD
In the ongoing struggle
against the aging process, keeping the skin in good condition usually
seems like a Sisyphean task. In addition to the natural toll advancing
years takes on the skin, sun exposure, pollution, smoking, and stress
are constantly causing further damage. Until very recently, the uphill
battle to look better has been both expensive and time consuming, based
on corrective rather than preventive methods. We believe that the new
NLite laser will change forever the face of skin care. Used as part of
a skin care regimen, this technology can effectively help people keep
the "rock" of anti aging at the top of the hill.
The implications
of this kind of approach are particularly important to most people who
must compete to survive and thrive. Many studies have shown that age discrimination
is prevalent in both work and social environments. Hence, a large percentage
of our population is concerned that the visual signs of the aging process
will hurt them in their struggle for financial and social success. There
are psychological benefits to turning back the clock as well. Generally,
when we sense that we look better, we feel more confident about most aspects
of our lives. We simply feel better.
This is why the
NLite will make such a difference in the lives of so many Americans. This
remarkable, "Star Treck"-like technology was created to accommodate
specifically the busy person who desires to cosmetically enhance their
skin but who does not have the liberty to take time off for more invasive
procedures like laser resurfacing or the traditional face lift. Most importantly,
it is effective. We have seen results in our office that can only be described
as incredible. And our patients are ecstatic!
Two NLite laser
treatments spread thirty days apart are recommended to start the process.
Collagen production from these sessions usually peaks ninety days later.
However, the older a person is, the less responsive they will be to the
technology, hence requiring more treatments more often. A person's lifestyle
also plays an important role in the quality and duration of the results.
Usually, smokers and people who spend time in the sun will need more sessions.
This is why we recommend a regimen based on retreatment every ninety to
one hundred eighty days for proper maintenance.
NLite treatments can be combined with other topical and homeopathic remedies.
While it is still too early in the process to know exactly which topical
agents will enhance the results of the NLite program, we use our own patented
products using different formulations that have been shown to enhance
collagen depositions. We advise using a vitamin C cream at night, as well
as taking a multivitamin that contains the necessary antioxidants to benefit
and protect the skin. Dr. Rapaport has also recommended homeopathic human
growth hormone as part of the anti aging regimen. Of course, patients
should plan on using a sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30 to protect the
skin from sun damage that causes the collagen to break down faster.
To conclude, we
envision that NLite has a rock-solid future as a part of a skin care regimen
that will hold the aging process in check. It is getting closer to the
"Holy Grail" that both cosmetic surgeons and patients alike
have been waiting and hoping for. And as new advances in this type of
laser technology are made, the results will only get better and better.

area has longer experience with this exciting new laser.
What causes wrinkles ?
Wrinkles can be the result of any one, or a combination of factors including
loss of collagen, sun damage, smoking, alcohol consumption and also hormonal
changes. Aging itself is a large contributing factor. Collagen can decrease
at a rate of 1% per year after the age of 40. Sun exposure accelerates
the aging process and loss of collagen. It also damages the collagen fibers
so that it may no longer support the upper layers of the skin, which results
in the formation of wrinkles.
What to expect during treatment
?
The NLite laser treatment by Dr. Rapaport for wrinkle reduction is noninvasive
and does not require general or local anesthesia. IT is a non-oblative
laser and does not wound the surface of the skin eliminating pose treatment
case. The light from the NLite laser targets the tissue under the skin
surface stimulating new collagen growth. The new collagen growth falls
in the cracks or the void in the wrinkle, reducing the crease in the wrinkle.
Treatments can take as little as 1 minute up to 30 minutes per treatment
depending upon the area and number of wrinkles to be treated. There is
no pain associated with this treatment. Some patients may feel a slight
warming sensation.
What should I expect after
treatment?
Unlike other laser treatments there is no pain, redness or damage to the
skins surface associated with this treatment. Makeup or moisturizer may
be applied immediately after treatment and patients are able to return
to their normal activities including work or sports. Patients may participate
in outside activities without fear of sensitivity to sunlight. The full
response from a single treatment will not be seen for 60-90 days. Once
the change has occurred, it will not diminish for many months. Dr. Jeffrey
Rapaport may also recommend a skin care regimen to enhance the laser treatment.
